Job Description
ATI Specialty Materials, an Allegheny Technologies Company, is a recognized world leader in the production of specialty alloys including titanium, nickel and specialty steel for the aerospace, biomedical, oil & gas, chemical processing and nuclear industries. We are seeking qualified candidates for a Calibration Technician position at the Oakdale, PA location.
ESSENTIAL TASKS:
Perform a variety of duties pertaining to the calibration of lab, shop and plant instrumentation. Lead, coordinate, organize and execute calibrations with production departments at multiple plants to achieve on time calibrations when the equipment is made available. Maintain related calibration logs and records.
Represent the Calibration area with external auditors, customer and internal auditors to maintain 3rd party accreditations and customer approvals that allow ATI Specialty Materials to participate in important markets.
Assist in the continuous improvement of equipment and processes working with experts in Quality, Engineering, etc. to prepare new calibration and instrumentation procedures and Task Element Sheets.
Verify calibration of instruments, perform minor repairs and cleaning, and coordinate sending instruments out for calibration and repair. Use and maintain instruments serving as standards in the calibration process including optical pyrometers, precision potentiometers, micrometers, gauge blocks, thermometers, and other precision instruments. Instrumentation includes the mechanical, electrical/electronic indications, recording and/or control of thermal, electrical, chemical, mechanical and other process variables relating to manufacturing or quality assurance.
Work with associates, calibration personnel, and others in any necessary troubleshooting and/or training activities.
Support Instrumentation Department's configuration controls as needed.
NON-ESSENTIAL TASKS:
Work across departments and plants when required based on the needs of the business.
Provide technical support inside and outside of department as necessary.
Participate in communications between the plants when required for sharing best practices.
Work with contractors, service technicians, engineering personnel when servicing or installing equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
High School diploma / GED
Associates degree in electronics or equivalent training and experience. Must have proven knowledge of electronics, electricity, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, programmable logic controllers HMIs and computerized operator interface software.
Execute calibrations according to procedures before the calibration due date at the time the equipment is made available. Maintain all required calibration logs and records.
Communicate well with production areas and other calibration personnel to schedule work and activities.
Must have the ability to work from complex drawings, schematics, sketches, parts lists and manuals. Utilize advanced mathematics to solve difficult problems. Working knowledge of reading schematics and programmable logic control programs.
Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition. Assumes a major role in the day to day safety of the shop employees. Follow prescribed safety and ethics regulations and work in compliance to all safety policies and procedures related to the work area.
Understand and act in compliance to all applicable Quality systems Procedures and Practices related to work area.
